CHITWAN: Madi Rural Municipality has banned the sale of single-use plastic items, including plastic cups, glasses, plates, forks, and similar products, within its jurisdiction.
The rural municipality issued a notice enforcing the ban after the deadline provided for businesses to manage and phase out plastic materials expired.
According to Executive Officer Jagat Prasad Bhusal, the measure aims to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally friendly alternatives.
Mayor Tara Kumari Kaji Mahato has urged residents and businesses to use products made from Sal leaves and other biodegradable materials in place of plastic items.
The local unit said the ban is part of its efforts to promote sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.
