Three more children die as Bangladesh’s measles death toll reaches 642

DHAKA: Three children with measles-like symptoms died in the 24 hours ending Thursday, bringing Bangladesh’s combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 642.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities were recorded as suspected measles deaths. The number of suspected deaths has now reached 550, while confirmed deaths remain at 92.

Health officials reported 1,110 new suspected cases during the same period, raising the nationwide total to 83,139. Another 132 cases were laboratory-confirmed, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 10,059.

Since March 15, more than 68,000 people with suspected measles have been hospitalized across the country, with 64,293 patients recovering, according to DGHS data.
