KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Food and Hygiene has announced that approximately 10,000 vials of the anti-rabies vaccine are currently available in its inventory.

According to the ministry’s co-spokesperson, Sameer Kumar Adhikari, exactly 10,011 vials of the vaccine are securely stocked across federal, provincial, and district-level hospital storehouses to meet immediate medical needs.

The available supply is expected to grow shortly due to international support.

Adhikari shared that 2,500 vials of the anti-rabies vaccine have already been received with assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), and an additional 4,500 vials are confirmed to arrive within the next few days.

Locally, the Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku, Kathmandu, maintains enough supply to last for approximately 40 days.

To ensure uninterrupted rabies prevention and treatment services across the country, the ministry has taken proactive steps and coordinated closely with relevant agencies.

The ministry has specifically requested local governments to properly manage dog and other animal bite cases and to facilitate smooth local vaccination services.

Adhikari added that regular coordination is ongoing to guarantee systematic distribution, and the entire supply chain is expected to become fully routine once the Department of Health Services completes its regular procurement process.
