DHANGADHI: A soldier was killed and a captain was injured following a grenade explosion during a training exercise at a Nepali Army training center in Kailali.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogendra Timilsina, spokesperson for the Kailali District Police, the deceased has been identified as Nepali Army Sergeant Himal Bikram Bista.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning during a firing exercise in the Jalpa Community Forest in Mohanyal Rural Municipality-7, conducted from the barracks of the Sudurpaschim Division Training Center located in Lamkichuha Municipality-3, Gorange.
Sergeant Bista sustained critical injuries to his right palm and other parts of his body when the grenade exploded.
DSP Timilsina stated that Bista tragically passed away at noon while undergoing emergency medical treatment at Lalratna Hospital.
Army Captain Him Raj Joshi was also injured during the firing exercise.
Following the explosion, Captain Joshi was evacuated by a Nepali Army helicopter and flown to Kathmandu for advanced medical treatment.
