ISLAMABAD: Pakistan launched airstrikes and sent ground troops into Afghanistan’s border provinces on Sunday, with the Afghan Taliban saying the attacks killed dozens and wounded more than 100 people, including civilians.
Pakistan said the operation targeted hideouts of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar, claiming 29 TTP fighters were killed in response to recent terrorist attacks. The Afghan Taliban condemned the operation as a “crime and atrocity,” asserting that it struck civilian homes.
The strikes came a day after a suicide attack on the headquarters of Pakistan’s Sindh Rangers in Karachi killed three paramilitary personnel. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of the TTP, claimed responsibility for the attack.
