KATHMANDU: Visually impaired citizens continued their protest at Maitighar, Kathmandu, for a ninth consecutive day on Tuesday, demanding the right to earn a livelihood in public spaces.
The protesters said they have been demonstrating against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City after being barred from working on sidewalks, around temples, and in other public areas.
During the protest, participants alleged that they have been subjected to repeated action by the Metropolitan City Police, including being detained at holding centers for extended periods. They also claimed that women protesters have faced inappropriate treatment.
The protesters have demanded that visually impaired individuals be allowed to earn a living with dignity in public spaces and that the government create employment opportunities based on their qualifications.
