KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina said the government has transformed the traditional postal system into a technology-enabled Government Courier Service, enabling government services to be delivered directly to citizens’ doorsteps in a more reliable, efficient, and citizen-friendly manner.
Addressing the High-Level Dialogue on Modernization of Postal Service organized by the Department of Postal Services, Timilsina said the government is implementing a planned strategy to revitalize the postal service, with positive results already emerging. He said the expansion of digital technology has changed, but not diminished, the importance of postal services, underscoring the need for modernization.
Timilsina stressed the importance of public-private partnership, inter-agency coordination, and a service-oriented work culture to strengthen the postal system. He said the home delivery of government documents, including passports and driver’s licenses, has reduced time, costs, and inconvenience for citizens while increasing public confidence in government services. He also said the government postal service remains a secure and reliable means of document delivery.
