KALIKOT: The Kalikot–Jumla road section of the Karnali Highway, which had been blocked since last night, has resumed operations.
Torrential rain last night triggered a massive landslide at Chheka along the Kalikot section of the highway. The highway reopened at 2:30 PM after clearing efforts began at 6:00 AM.
According to the District Police Office, Kalikot, the road could be reopened quickly because excavators worked continuously to clear the debris.
The District Police Office noted in a social media update that it would have taken much longer had the rain continued.
Vehicular movement had come to a complete halt since last night due to the landslide at Chheka Bazar in Ward No. 7 of Tilagupha Municipality.
The landslide had blocked the highway in both directions. Following the clearance of the debris, the road is now fully operational.
Since the Karnali Highway is prone to disruptions during the rainy season, police have urged travelers to check for road updates before departing.
