KATHMANDU: During Wednesday’s House of Representatives session, opposition lawmakers fiercely criticized Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s administration, demanding a special ruling from the Speaker to force the PM to face parliamentary questioning.
CPN (UML) MP Rajendra Kumar Rai accused the Prime Minister of evading accountability and ignoring a 1.5-month legislative deadlock, warning that opposition protests will continue until he addresses the House.
Concurrently, Nepali Communist Party MP Parshuram Tamang condemned the Prime Minister for public remarks that allegedly undermined Nepal’s sovereign borders and the 2020 unanimously approved national map.
Tamang also criticized the state’s failure to manage the ongoing landless settlers crisis.
The debate also focused heavily on government double standards and superficial policies.
Shram Sanskriti Party MP Harka Raj Rai (Sampang) slammed the administration for selective law enforcement, pointing out that a youth was swiftly jailed for insulting the PM while high-ranking officials who made violent threats faced no consequences.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress MP Harina Devi Kami dismissed a government plan to paint public buses blue for women’s safety as a “political stunt,” arguing that taxpayer money should be spent on strict law enforcement and robust protection rather than vehicle aesthetics.
