KATHMANDU: Police have arrested nine educational consultancy directors on charges of defrauding Nepali students by sending them to study at unaccredited colleges in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police stated that the suspects defrauded students by sending them to colleges lacking approval from the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) under the UAE Ministry of Higher Education.
The students were deceptively promised that they could later “credit transfer” to universities in countries like France and Australia.
According to Police Spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anupam Shamsher Rana, an investigation has been launched against the arrestees after obtaining arrest warrants from the Kathmandu District Court for the offense of fraud under the National Penal Code, 2017.
Police informed that they were arrested on Thursday and are being held for necessary investigation.
