KATHMANDU:  Following continuous rainfall, the rising water levels of the Bagmati River have inundated the Radha Soami Landless Settlers’ Holding Center located in Sundarighat, Kirtipur Municipality-10, Kathmandu.

As water entered the center, the displaced settlers taking shelter there have been forced into displacement once again.

Victims reported that after the holding center was flooded, security personnel managed to retrieve some belongings using boats; however, most of their household items, clothing, and other essential supplies were soaked and destroyed.

According to them, the sudden midnight flooding left many with no time to move their belongings to safety.

Furthermore, they complained that security personnel arrived at the scene only after around 2:00 AM.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, information regarding the inundation was received at 1:38 AM, after which a joint team was deployed.

The team consisted of 30 personnel, including a disaster management unit from the Riot Control Regiment under the command of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), along with an additional 30 personnel from the Nepal Police.

Out of the 154 individuals at the holding center, the rescue team successfully evacuated 54 people and safely relocated them to the Smriti Bhawan at Tribhuvan University.

Among the remaining residents, six have gone to stay with relatives or at a nearby hostel, while 94 declined to leave and are staying in a safe, unflooded section within the center itself.
