LAMJUNG: Vehicular movement has remained smooth even during the peak monsoon season following the completion of landslide control structures in Udipur, along the Dumre–Beshisahar road section. The project was constructed by the federal government at a total cost of Rs 111.9 million.

According to Nabin Bista, Information Officer for the Dumre–Beshisahar–Chame Road Project Office, the newly built infrastructure includes micro-piling in the Marshyangdi River, protective retaining walls along the riverbank, a 45-meter-high and 80-meter-long gabion wall, 300 meters of blacktopped road, and soil-nailing across the landslide-prone area above the road.

Babulal Shrestha, a local from Beshisahar, shared that commuting through the Udipur area has become much safer and easier after the landslide control measures were implemented.

“Last year during the monsoon, we faced constant disruptions. There was a perpetual fear of rocks falling from above. Now, we can travel with absolute confidence. The road is in great condition, and the dread of landslides is gone,” he said.

Narayan Ghimire, a driver who frequently operates on this route, also expressed his relief at being able to drive through the Udipur section without fear.

Before the landslide control project, vehicles were forced to take alternative routes almost daily to reach their destinations.

The Dumre–Beshisahar road serves as a vital transport artery, connecting not only Lamjung but also the mountainous district of Manang.
