Three arrested with brown sugar in Lalitpur

LALITPUR: The police have arrested three individuals from Harisiddhi, Lalitpur, in possession of the illicit drug brown sugar.

The arrested persons have been identified as 38-year-old Anil Shrestha of Dhunibeshi Municipality-9, Dhading; 35-year-old Jabed Alam of Katahari Rural Municipality-4, Morang; and 34-year-old Bikash Bhagat of Khadak Municipality-7, Saptari.

According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), they were apprehended from Harisiddhi, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-29.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Durga Raj Regmi, the spokesperson for the Bureau, stated that Shrestha was initially arrested on July 9, with 29 grams of brown sugar recovered from his possession.

Following further investigation into Shrestha, Alam and Bhagat were subsequently arrested on Saturday, SP Regmi added.

The police seized an additional 300 grams of brown sugar, a digital weighing scale, and a Brezza car (registration number Ba 17 Cha 837) used for smuggling the contraband from them.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the narcotics were smuggled into Lalitpur via Biratnagar from the Jogbani and Forbesganj areas of India.

The police also uncovered that the arrested individuals were involved in distributing brown sugar within the Lalitpur area.

The Bureau stated that all three individuals have been remanded in custody, and further investigation has been initiated against them under the Narcotics Control Act, 1976.
