KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed serious concern over incidents where vehicles were suspiciously parked directly in front of the gates of several major media houses, obstructing journalists from carrying out their professional duties and creating an atmosphere of fear.

According to a press release issued today by FNJ General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal, the obstructions began early in the morning at around 7:00 AM. Vehicles were found deliberately parked to block the entrance gates of Kantipur Publications in Tinkune, Onlinekhabar in Naya Baneshwor, and Himalaya Television in Madhya Baneshwor, severely hindering the movement of journalists and staff.

The umbrella organization of Nepali journalists has strongly urged the concerned government authorities to immediately clear the blockades and guarantee the security of both media personnel and communication houses.

Terming the coordinated blockades as a “reprehensible and mysterious” act aimed at disrupting press freedom and the rights of journalists, the FNJ has demanded a swift investigation into the matter and strict legal action against those responsible.

The federation also stated that it is currently coordinating with security agencies to safely remove the vehicular obstructions and restore normal access to the media offices.
