RASUWA: Electricity generation at the 111 MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project has been suspended as a precaution after water levels rose in the Lhende Stream on Sunday evening, triggering a mud-laden flood.
Project officials said the intake gate was closed to protect infrastructure from possible damage. The project had resumed operations after repairs and reconstruction following flood damage, including to its dam, in July last year. Electricity generation is expected to resume once conditions are deemed safe.
Authorities are also monitoring the rising flow of the Bhote Koshi River. As a precaution, freight vehicles and newly imported vehicles at the Rasuwagadhi Customs Yard have been relocated to safer areas.
The District Administration Office has advised travelers heading to and from Kerung to avoid the Mailung road section and use the Betrawati-Kalikasthan-Dhunche-Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi route instead. It has also urged the public to stay away from riverbanks and other high-risk areas and report any disaster-related incidents through the toll-free number 1234.
