KATHMANDU: Bibek Mandal, who attempted self-immolation in Godaita Municipality of Sarlahi, has passed away while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.

According to the hospital administration, Mandal, who was receiving treatment at the Kirtipur Cleft & Burn Plastic Surgery Hospital (Kirtipur Burn Hospital), breathed his last at 2:05 AM this morning.

He was airlifted to Kathmandu on Friday using an Army helicopter. On Thursday afternoon, the 34-year-old Mandal, a resident of Godaita Municipality-10, Sisautiya in Sarlahi, had walked out of his home onto the road, poured petrol over his body, and set himself on fire.

He was initially taken to the Provincial Hospital before being airlifted to Kathmandu for advanced medical care.

Prior to this incident, Ganesh Nepali and Ashwin Raut, who also attempted self-immolation in separate incidents, had already passed away.
