DHANUSHA: The Madhesh Province Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed the Rs 41.138 billion budget for the fiscal year 2026/27, ending a prolonged dispute that had repeatedly disrupted House proceedings.
Finance Minister Yubaraj Bhattarai had presented the budget on June 15, but the main opposition and other opposition parties had obstructed Assembly meetings, demanding amendments or the formation of a task force over what they described as shortcomings in the budget.
To resolve the deadlock, the Assembly formed a seven-member task force on July 12. The panel submitted a 10-point report on Tuesday, and its recommendations were incorporated into the budget before it was endorsed unanimously.
