BRUSSELS: Europe’s highest court has ruled in favor of Italy’s communications authority in a case involving Google, upholding a EUR 750,000 (USD 854,250) fine imposed in 2021 over gambling advertisements on YouTube.
The Court of Justice of the European Union (EU) found that Google can be held responsible for content published by creators on its platform when a commercial partnership exists between the company and the content creator.
The ruling reinforces the accountability of digital platforms for certain promotional content shared through business relationships.
