KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged residents in riverine areas to remain on high alert today, warning of a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers across several districts.

Water flow is expected to rise significantly in small rivers originating in or passing through Jhapa, Udayapur, Makwanpur, Gorkha, Lamjung, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Kalikot, Doti, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, and adjoining districts.

Hydrologist Binod Parajuli stated that ongoing continuous rainfall could cause sudden spikes in water levels in local rivers and streams. He urged residents living along riverbanks, downstream low-lying areas, and flood-prone zones to exercise special caution.
