FAO Director Yang pays courtesy call on Agriculture Minister Chaudhary

KATHMANDU: Hua Yang, Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Agriculture, Forests, and Environment Geeta Chaudhary today.

During the meeting held at the Ministry, the two officials discussed key issues including food security in Nepal, agricultural transformation, sustainable agrifood systems, development, and the expansion of South-South and triangular cooperation.

On the occasion, Minister Chaudhary expressed Nepal’s keen interest in further broadening cooperation to transform the country’s agricultural sector, strengthen food security, and mobilize international financial resources.

According to the Ministry, discussions also covered cross-border animal disease control, climate-resilient agricultural development, capacity building for agricultural laboratories, establishing accredited labs, promoting exports of high-value agricultural produce, and bolstering legal and institutional frameworks for geographical indications.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at building a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive agricultural and food system.
