SURKHET: In Karnali, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has also decided to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion brought against Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel in parliament.

Krishna Bahadur GC, Chief Whip of the NCP Parliamentary Party, informed that this decision was made during the parliamentary party meeting held on Thursday morning.

“As per our old stance, the decision was made in today’s meeting. The two-hour long meeting decided to stand in favor of the no-confidence motion,” he said.

Four Nepali Congress ministers in Chief Minister Kandel’s cabinet had resigned on July 16. The following day on the July 17, the Nepali Congress and NCP jointly registered a motion of no-confidence against the Chief Minister.

The Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party had already decided in its meeting on Wednesday to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion.

Previously, Kandel had become Chief Minister under a power-sharing arrangement between the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML). After the Nepali Congress decided at the central level not to collaborate with UML recently, a no-confidence motion was registered here in Karnali as well.

To form a government in the 40-member Karnali Provincial Assembly, 21 lawmakers are required. Currently, the NCP has 14 lawmakers and Congress has 14. The CPN (UML) has 10, while the RPP and an Independent lawmaker have one seat each.

When registering the no-confidence motion in parliament, the NCP put forward Congress to take the leadership.

The Provincial Head has been urged to appoint Congress Parliamentary Party Leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi as the Chief Minister.

The Business Advisory Committee meeting is currently underway.
