JHAPA: A total of 761,433 metric tons of food grains were produced across Jhapa district during the last fiscal year 2025/2026.

According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center, both arable land area and food grain production have been steadily declining in recent years.

Seven types of food crops—summer paddy, spring paddy, maize, finger millet (kodo), buckwheat, wheat, and barley—were cultivated and harvested during the last fiscal year.

Production figures for the period show that spring paddy yielded 89,655.30 metric tons, summer paddy 377,534.35 metric tons, maize 283,187.88 metric tons, finger millet 869.47 metric tons, buckwheat 3,758.70 metric tons, wheat 6,419 metric tons, and barley 8.10 metric tons.

In the fiscal year 2025/2026, farming was conducted across 130,386 hectares of land. In comparison, during the previous fiscal year 2024/2025, cultivation spanned 145,326.06 hectares, yielding 852,208.25 metric tons of food grains.

Over a single year, the land area used for food grain cultivation decreased by 14,940 hectares, while total production dropped by approximately 90,775 metric tons.
