SANTA CLARA: NVIDIA is reportedly in discussions to provide about USD 250 billion in financing guarantees for OpenAI as part of a planned artificial intelligence (AI) data center project in Ohio expected to cost more than USD 500 billion.
The proposed support would help OpenAI secure long-term access to a 10-gigawatt facility being developed by an energy unit of SoftBank, marking a major step toward building its own AI infrastructure instead of relying on cloud providers such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle.
Separate discussions are also said to include financing for up to USD 350 billion worth of NVIDIA AI chips.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2028, with an initial capacity of about 800 megawatts.
