KATHMANDU: Member of Parliament Jagdish Kharel, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava on Tuesday jointly inaugurated the restored Shree Gusthal Mahavihar and Agam of Prathamshree Mahavihar in Patan, Lalitpur.

The heritage restoration project was completed with Rs 120 million in post-earthquake reconstruction assistance from the Government of India and implemented by the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Building and Housing) under the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, with design and project management support from the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

Speaking at the event, Kharel and Maharjan appreciated India’s support for restoring cultural heritage sites, while Ambassador Srivastava said the project reflects the deep cultural ties and longstanding development partnership between the two countries.

According to the Indian Embassy, India has supported the conservation of 30 cultural heritage sites in eight districts under its post-earthquake reconstruction program.
