KATHMANDU: The government has decided to accept a US$1.81 million grant from South Korea. The decision was made during today’s Cabinet meeting, according to Minister for Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina. The grant will be used to establish a pilot Legal Information System in Nepal.

Nepal’s Cabinet has approved accepting a US$1.81 million grant from the South Korean government to establish the Nepal Legal Information Pilot System.

The project aims to digitalize Nepal’s legal information management, enabling citizens to access laws, regulations, and amendments more efficiently.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) signed a Record of Discussion with Nepal’s Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on April 30, 2026. It includes the development of a centralized legal information portal, a Law Editing System to track legal amendments, and a Law Administration System to streamline institutional processes.

The initiative will also provide IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and cybersecurity systems, while supporting capacity-building programs for government officials, legal professionals, and technical personnel. Community outreach and training programs are also planned to promote effective use of the new system.
