NEPSE drops 10.07 points, turnover rises to Rs 3.29 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its downward trend today, Thursday, marking the fourth trading day of the week with a loss. Despite the decline in the index, the total turnover amount saw an increase compared to the previous day.

The NEPSE index dropped by 10.07 points today. This follows a decline of 4.15 points on Wednesday and a significant drop of 39.44 points on Tuesday. On Monday, the index had risen by 38.19 points.

Closing at 2,730.17 points, the index fell by 0.36 percent compared to the previous trading day. The sensitive index also decreased by 0.34 points to close at 467.20, a decline of 0.07 percent. Similarly, the float index fell by 0.31 percent, and the sensitive float index dropped by 0.08 percent.

In the stock market today, a total of 7,958,752 shares of 337 companies were traded through 46,402 transactions. Consequently, the turnover reached Rs 3.29 billion.

In comparison, the turnover was Rs 2.807 billion on Wednesday, Rs 4.665 billion on Tuesday, and Rs 4.613 billion on Monday.

Share prices of only 80 companies increased today, while 174 companies saw a decline and 14 remained stable. Out of the 13 sub-indices traded on the NEPSE, only three sectors ended in the green, while the remaining 10 sub-indices turned red.

According to the data, the Commercial Bank group decreased by 0.06 percent, Development Bank by 0.53 percent, Finance by 0.72 percent, Hotel and Tourism by 0.30 percent, Hydropower by 0.25 percent, and Investment by 0.26 percent. While the life insurance group edged up by 0.01 percent, the manufacturing and processing group fell by 0.52 percent and microfinance by 0.21 percent.

Furthermore, the mutual fund sub-index rose by 0.08 percent, while non-life insurance dropped by 0.51 percent and the others group fell by 2 percent. The trading group sub-index saw an increase of 0.32 percent.

Investors of Union Hydropower earned the most with a 9.79 percent rise in share price, while Asian Hydropower investors lost the most as its share price dropped by 9.89 percent.

In terms of turnover, Himalayan Reinsurance topped the list with a total transaction of Rs 376.8 million.

Based on the number of shares traded, MBL Equity Fund led the market today with 642,550 units exchanged. The final trading price for MBL was maintained at Rs 10.10 per unit.
