KATHMANDU: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has directed dealers to immediately stop selling petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, and kerosene in bottles and jerricans, citing safety risks.

The directive was issued Monday through a letter sent to the Nepal Petroleum Dealers’ National Association branches in Dhanusha District and Mahottari District after public complaints about shops and individuals selling fuel in unsafe containers.

According to the letter signed by depot chief Ranjit Kapadi, selling highly inflammable petroleum products in bottles and jerricans increases the risk of accidents such as fires and explosions. The corporation instructed dealers and petrol pumps to ensure that such practices stop immediately.

The corporation also asked the dealers’ association to raise awareness among its members and the public, urging consumers to purchase fuel only from authorized petrol pumps. It warned that any violations detected during monitoring would lead to action under NOC regulations and prevailing government laws.
