KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police have penalized 1,841 motorists during a comprehensive 24-hour inspection sweep conducted at various locations throughout the valley.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nabaraj Adhikari, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, reported that the enforcement operation successfully generated a total revenue of Rs 479,501 from the penalties handed out during the investigation concluding this morning.

The crackdown targeted a wide array of traffic violations to ensure safer roads.

Among the penalized motorists, the highest volume of offenses fell under general traffic violations with 891 drivers cited.

Additionally, police took action against 192 drivers for unauthorized ride-sharing, 183 for running red lights, 149 for honking in restricted zones, 126 for speeding, 107 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 77 for one-way violations, 75 for driving on sidewalks, and 41 for lane violations.

Highlighting that driving under the influence remains strictly illegal and highly dangerous, authorities have urged the public to actively participate in keeping the streets safe.

The traffic police advise passengers and pedestrians who suspect a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs to report the situation immediately by contacting the nearest police station, calling the traffic control room hotline at 103, or dialing the general police hotline at 100.
