BENI: Police in Myagdi have arrested a convict who escaped from Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur during the unrest and jailbreak that occurred amid the Gen Z protest.

The arrested individual has been identified as 54-year-old Vishwanath Bhagat of Khadka Municipality-10, Dandrahi, Saptari. He was taken into custody on Tuesday morning by a team from the District Police Office, Myagdi.

According to police, Bhagat had been serving a prison sentence of two years and one month in a narcotics case at Nakkhu Jail. He allegedly fled the correctional facility during a jailbreak that took place amid widespread unrest linked to the Gen Z protests.

Acting on a tip-off, police tracked Bhagat to Bharbang of Malika Rural Municipality-7, where he had reportedly been hiding. He was arrested during a targeted operation.

Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina, information officer at the District Police Office, Myagdi, said Bhagat is currently being held in custody in Beni. Legal procedures are underway to hand him over to the concerned authorities so that he can serve the remainder of his sentence.

Police said further legal action may also be taken against him in connection with his escape from prison.
