KATHMANDU: Police have arrested three individuals for allegedly defrauding victims of large sums of money by promising to send them abroad for employment.
According to Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Karki, spokesperson for the Valley Crime Investigation Office, those arrested have been identified as 31-year-old Shakti Rai of Budhanilkantha Municipality-9 (originally from Solududhkunda Municipality-1, Solukhumbu), 39-year-old Bimala Dong of Budhanilkantha-11 (originally from Panchpokhari Rural Municipality-1, Sindhupalchok), and 31-year-old Roshan Tamang of Gokarneshwor Municipality-5.
Police said the arrests were made based on complaints filed by victims.
Shakti Rai allegedly collected Rs 195,000 promising to send a victim to New Zealand, Bimala Dong took Rs 1.36 million with claims of sending someone to Azerbaijan, and Roshan Tamang collected Rs 2.4 million promising employment in Canada before going out of contact.
The suspects were arrested from various locations in Kathmandu and have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action, police said.
