KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and China’s Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, held a courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs today.

During the meeting, Ambassador Maoming congratulated Minister Gurung and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure.

In response, Minister Gurung reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to the one-China policy, stating that no activities against China would be allowed on Nepali soil. He also emphasized that the government remains fully committed to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

During the talks, Minister Gurung requested coordination and facilitation to make the process of repatriating Chinese nationals residing illegally in Nepal without visa renewal more effective. He also called for timely completion of projects being implemented with Chinese support, advancing the Nepal–China railway project, and further initiatives to facilitate bilateral trade.

Both sides also discussed enhancing cooperation to control criminal activities along the Nepal–China border areas. The Chinese side expressed a positive stance on the matter and conveyed its willingness to support capacity-building efforts of Nepal’s security agencies.

Meanwhile, concern was also expressed over recent reports of disruptions in cross-border movement through the Tatopani border point. Ambassador Maoming clarified that there were no obstructions in the border area, describing such reports as misleading.
