KATHMANDU: The Special Court has granted a 10-day detention extension for Armed Police Force (APF) Inspector Kalpana Gurung and her associate Lila Bahadur Lama (Tamang) to allow the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to investigate their involvement in a Rs 110-million financial scandal at the APF School in Kirtipur.

Inspector Gurung, who unlawfully held her post as chief accountant for six years, allegedly siphoned off school revenues meant for the APF Welfare Fund and transferred them to Lama, a travel agency operator who subsequently lost the funds in failed ventures.

The multi-million-rupee scam was uncovered during a financial handover to a new accountant, prompting internal APF inquiries that also flagged gross negligence by former school commandants and welfare officials before the case was handed over to the CIAA.
