KATHMANDU: A total of 836 Nepali candidates have been selected through a lottery for employment in Israel’s caregiving sector, with departures expected to begin in September 2026 after completion of the remaining recruitment procedures.

According to the Embassy of Israel in Nepal, the lottery was conducted on Thursday by Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) in Jerusalem and broadcast live in Nepal to ensure transparency. Senior Israeli officials, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass, officials from the Department of Foreign Employment, and representatives of the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment attended the live broadcast.

A total of 1,115 candidates, including 784 men and 331 women, participated in the lottery. Seventy-five percent of candidates from each category were selected, resulting in 836 successful applicants.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Bass said more than 2,100 additional employment opportunities in Israel’s caregiving sector are expected to open soon. He added that Israel and Nepal are finalizing bilateral protocols on home-based caregiving and agricultural workers, which are expected to create further employment opportunities for Nepali workers.

The selected candidates will undergo medical examinations and criminal background checks before traveling to Israel in batches beginning in September 2026. Under the bilateral labor agreement, Nepali caregivers will receive the same minimum salary and employment conditions as Israeli workers in accordance with Israeli law.
