NA Session Adjourned Until Wednesday After Opposition Protest
The National Assembly (NA) session today adjourned after opposition parties obstructed proceedings demanding the withdrawal of controversial remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on border-related issues. The disruption began immediately after the session started, with opposition lawmakers standing in protest and halting the agenda. Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal initially allowed time for grievances to be expressed in an effort to restore order. As the deadlock continued, the Chairperson adjourned the meeting and rescheduled it for 12:15 PM tomorrow.
House Meeting Adjourned Until June 8 amid Opposition Protests

Gandaki Government Begins Discussion on Policies and Programs
The Gandaki Province government is unveiling policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year, 2026/27, later today. Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatta is scheduled to present the government policies and programs in the Province Assembly at 4:00 pm, according to Govind Paudel, secretary at province assembly secretariat. The province governments are constitutionally stipulated to bring budget on Asar 1 of Nepali calendar, which is preceded by unveiling of the policies and programs. The budget session of the Province Assembly had begun a week back. The Province Assembly secretariat informed that even a discussion was held on principles and priorities of the appropriation bill.
RSP Chair Lamichhane Meets Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar
Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), held talks with S. Government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel has defended Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s recent remarks in Parliament regarding the border issue with India. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Pokharel explained that the Prime Minister was simply expressing surprise over claims from Delhi that Nepal had encroached upon Indian territory. Probe Panel Gets 5-Day Extension into Former Home Minister Gurung Case
The committee formed to investigate questions surrounding the share investments and sources of assets linked to former Home Minister Sudan Gurung has been granted an additional five days to complete its work. The panel, led by former High Court judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, received the extension from Tuesday after its initial mandate expired on Monday. Comptroller General Shobha Kant Paudel and Joint Attorney Achyut Mani Neupane serve as committee members. Committee member Neupane said statements have been recorded and the examination of relevant facts has been completed. The panel is currently drafting its final report. The Cabinet formed the committee on May 6 to investigate concerns raised over Gurung’s investments and assets. Gurung resigned on April 22, citing the need to avoid any conflict of interest after controversy emerged over his reported business partnership with Dipak Bhatta, who is under investigation in a money laundering and investment-source case.
OAG Annual Report Submitted to Koshi Province Chief
The annual report of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) for the fiscal year 2024/25 has been submitted to Koshi Province Chief Parashuram Khapung. Deputy Auditor General Shree Kumar Rai presented the document to the Province Chief today. Receiving the report, the Province Chief said that the document would prove to be a milestone in strengthening financial discipline, and accountability. Stating that the OAG has been making continuous efforts to curb financial irregularities, prevent the accumulation of arrears, and control corruption, he urged it to remain more vigilant in controlling unnecessary public expenditures. On the occasion, Rai said audits of 721, out of a total 753 local units, have already been completed. However, remaining local governments that lost documents and archival records during the September 8-9, 2025, Gen Z protest have faced difficulties in finalizing their audits, according to him.
Parsa Court Orders Release of Birgunj Mayor on Bail
The Parsa District Court has ordered the release of Rajesh Man Singh on bail in connection with document forgery and citizenship-related charges. A bench led by Judge Gayatri Prasad Regmi set bail at RS 400,000 for the forgery case and Rs 15,000 for allegedly obtaining citizenship through false information. Mayor Singh was arrested by police in Thori today, 10 days after an arrest warrant was issued against him. He was subsequently presented before the court. The case stems from allegations that forged documents, including a birth registration certificate, citizenship certificate, and passport, were prepared using falsified signatures. RSP Suspends Internal Election Process Amid Disputes
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has suspended its ongoing internal election process following disputes related to party elections in several provinces and districts. A meeting of the party’s Central Election Commission, chaired by Commission Head Bhuwan KC, decided to halt all ongoing and scheduled election activities, except those completed by May 31, pending investigation and final decisions on complaints filed over the electoral process. The commission said election-related activities for ward, municipal, and district conventions in the affected areas will remain suspended until further notice. It also warned that any process carried out in defiance of the directive will not receive official recognition. Nepali Congress parliamentary leader Bhisma Raj Angdembey has made it clear that the party has not formed a ‘shadow council of ministers’. According to him, the party has merely assigned thematic responsibilities to its members in line with the 18 existing government ministries, and in accordance with the party statute. He stressed that this arrangement should not be interpreted as the formation of a ‘shadow government’ or a ‘shadow council of ministers’. The ministerial-level responsibilities have been entrust to party members in the House of Representatives and the National Assembly from the party aiming to make parliamentary affairs more effective, rather than forming a parallel structure as an alternative to the government. Stating that the term ‘shadow government’ was in the practice in the Nepali politics in the past, he said, however, the NC has not established such a structure this time.
