SUNSARI: The water flow in the Saptakoshi River has continued to rise following the onset of the monsoon, reaching 163,230 cusec late Wednesday.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Bahadur Khadka, continuous rainfall in eastern Nepal is expected to push the water levels even higher.
In response, authorities have opened 21 out of the 56 total gates at the Koshi Barrage and activated danger signals—including lighting red warning lights and hoisting red flags—since the discharge crossed the critical 150,000 cusec threshold.
The surging river increases the risk of inundation and erosion in surrounding areas from mid-June to mid-August, drawing high alertness from both Nepali and Indian authorities downriver.
