KAVREPALANCHOK: The BP Highway, which had been blocked by flooding, briefly reopened until 10 AM today before being closed again after water levels in the Roshi River rose.

Traffic was resumed in the morning after an temporary diversion was built along the route, but it was halted again due to increased water flow.

The highway was previously blocked after floods in the Roshi River triggered by rainfall last Monday.The District Police Office has urged the public to avoid travelling on the route except in emergencies, as continuous rainfall has made the diversion vulnerable to damage.

Authorities said the approximately four-kilometre temporary diversion in the Roshi area is frequently affected whenever rainfall intensifies, forcing repeated closures.

Following the obstruction, vehicles are being held at Dhulikhel, Kavrebhanjyang, Mangaltar, and Nepalthok in Sindhuli.

Last year’s floods and landslides washed away about 18 kilometres of the highway in areas including Chaukidanda, Roshi, and Nepalthok in Sindhuli, after which traffic was diverted through the riverbed using temporary arrangements.

Reconstruction work is currently underway in the affected sections.
