KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) parliamentary party has drawn its serious attention to the incident of misbehavior against the House of Representatives (HoR) member Ganesh Paudel.

He was elected the Lower House member from Rautahat constituency-4. The ruling party’s parliamentary party denunciated the incident in which lawmaker Paudel was smeared with black soot.

In a statement today by the party’s chief spokesperson, Kabindra Burlakoti, the incident of misconduct against lawmaker Paudel while returning after a public meeting on July 23 was vehemently condemned.

The statement reads while the right to express disagreement and protest is protected in a democratic system, violence, misconduct, or humiliating behavior toward public representatives cannot be accepted in any democratic society.

RSP believes that such activities undermine the rule of law, democratic values, and peaceful and cultured political practice.

RSP has demanded the government and concerned authorities to conduct an impartial investigation of the incident, strictly penalize those involved according to the law, make the facts of the incident public, and ensure the safety of public representatives to prevent such incidents in the future.

The parliamentary party has always been committed to democratic values, the rule of law, nonviolent political practice, and building a civilized society, it is stated.
