KATHMANDU: Victims of microfinance institutions have commenced an indefinite fast-unto-death at Maitighar in Kathmandu starting Tuesday morning.

The protest follows a “Kathmandu March” organized last Sunday to draw the government’s attention to their grievances.

The protesters are demanding the immediate publication and implementation of past official reports regarding microfinance institutions.

They have also urged the government to end financial exploitation by microfinance companies, banks, and financial institutions, demanding the abolition of compound interest rates, exorbitant fees, penalties, and various other levies imposed on borrowers.

Furthermore, they are seeking a judicial resolution to halt unfair loan recovery practices, land mortgage auctions, and the blacklisting of distressed borrowers.
