KATHMANDU: Continuous monsoon rains have triggered widespread landslides and flooding across various parts of Nepal, severely disrupting traffic on several vital highway sections.

According to the latest update issued by Nepal Police today, multiple roadways across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces remain either completely blocked, restricted, or open only for one-way traffic. Panchthar district in Koshi Province is currently facing the worst impact, with major transport links cut off completely.

In Koshi Province, the Mid-Hill Highway (Madhya Pahadi Lokmarga) has been completely blocked at three different locations within the Yangwarak Rural Municipality since May 22 due to the severe impact of landslides and floods.

Landslides have completely halted traffic at Yangwarak-3, Oyam Bazar and Yangwarak-3, Rijalbhir, while flooding has entirely closed the highway section at Yangwarak-2, Dobhan.

Elsewhere in the province, flooding on April 25 at Bhojpur Municipality-5, Bokhim along the Mid-Hill Highway has been partially cleared, allowing traffic to operate on a one-way basis with an alternative route available. Additionally, a landslide on April 26 at Makalu Rural Municipality-3, Naya Basti along the Koshi Highway has restricted traffic to one-way operation.

In Bagmati Province, movement has been suspended on a key highway section due to high risks of flash floods. Since May 5, authorities have completely suspended the operation of all vehicles along the B.P. Highway segment that services the Khurkot – Nepalthok – Katunje Bensi route to ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, in Gandaki Province, the crucial Beni-Jomsom road section is facing ongoing obstructions due to landslides at two separate points, limiting traffic to one-way operations. These obstructions are located at Annapurna Rural Municipality-3, Jalthale, which has been obstructed since April 29, and at Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3, Tallo Baisari, where disruptions began on May 21.

In Karnali Province, high landslide risks have completely stopped traffic in remote areas. Due to potential landslide threats lurking since May 12 of the previous month, vehicular movement remains entirely suspended on the Hilsa-Simikot road section at Namkha Rural Municipality-2.

Travelers nationwide are strongly advised by officials to check local police updates and highway conditions before heading out on these routes, particularly along the Mid-Hill and Beni-Jomsom corridors, as unstable weather persists.
