People aspiring for good governance: Speaker

KAVREPALANCHOK: Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has said the people have the higher level of aspirations for good governance.

In his address to the ninth district assembly and progress review programme of the District Coordination Committee at Kavrepalanchowk today, he said, “Good governance is the profound aspiration of the people. The issues raised regarding transparency, accountability and responsibility of late have significantly inspired to make the state system further responsible and citizen-friendly”.

As democracy cannot be strengthened only through elections it has to be result-oriented in the service to the people, Speaker Aryal added. “True assessment of federalism hinges on quality of service delivery from the local level”, he noted.

The local governments should deliver in a way that the citizens should directly sense the responsibilities and opportunities provided by the Constitution, he said, adding the end success of the law largely depends on its effective implementation. “Local government is the doorstep government of the people”, he mentioned.

“The Constitution should be amended talking into consideration the needs of the emerging generation. But, the spirit of all political parties, regions and individuals should be accommodated”.

On the same occasion, he honoured Madhu Kumar Chaulagain, Badan Bhandari and Ram Lama, who were elected the House of Representatives (HoR) members from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, as well as other local representatives having outstanding performance.
