KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled to take place today at 10:30 AM.

According to sources, the meeting will discuss a proposed framework for merging and abolishing several ministries.

A source at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers said that four existing ministries are set to be scrapped.

Additionally, work is in its final stage to assign new names to six other ministries.

To prepare the restructuring blueprint, the government had earlier formed a five-member task force under the coordination of Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The task force proposed limiting the number of federal ministries to 17, and the government is preparing its plan based on that recommendation, sources said.
