KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) leader and former Member of Parliament Laxmi Mahato Koiri has been sent to jail.

Arrested yesterday from Gaushala in Mahottari, Koiri was presented before the Mahottari District Court today by the District Police Office, Mahottari.

Kedar Nath Jha, the Information Officer at the Mahottari District Court, informed that Koiri was sent to Mahottari Prison after the court retrieved the case file and verdict documents from the Janakpur High Court.

He stated, “The District Police Office presented him before the court for the implementation of the verdict. After obtaining the case file of the verdict from the High Court, he was sent to prison based on that.”

Koiri, who was accused in the murder of Armed Police Force (APF) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Thaman BK, had previously been acquitted by the Mahottari District Court. However, the Janakpur High Court overturned that decision and sentenced him to five years in prison.

The police arrested Koiri from Gaushala yesterday after the High Court handed down the five-year prison sentence.
