KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has accused the government of actively trying to suppress critical voices and silence those who question its actions.
Speaking at a party event on Monday, Thapa highlighted today’s incident where a vehicle was suspiciously parked directly in front of his residential gate around 7:00 AM, with eyewitnesses reporting that the driver left the scene in a police vehicle.
Thapa dismissed the incident as a mere parking issue, labeling it a deliberate intimidation tactic aimed at stifling dissent and sending a warning to anyone questioning authority.
Condemning the move, he emphasized that the Nepali Congress was founded on the principles of fighting authoritarianism and protecting the citizens’ right to question, which cannot be stripped away.
This incident follows similar reports of suspicious vehicle placements outside the offices of major media houses like Kantipur Publications and Onlinekhabar, raising widespread concerns among political leaders regarding press freedom and the intimidation of public figures.
