CHITWAN: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has concluded its first general convention in Chitwan, electing a leadership body consisting of 7 core office bearers and 99 Central Committee members.
However, the event—which dragged on for six days despite being originally scheduled for three—ended on a highly contentious note.
While a new organizational structure was successfully established, a staggering voter turnout of just 30% during the office-bearer elections exposed deep-seated internal discontent, leaving many convention delegates returning home more frustrated than accomplished.
The low turnout serves as a clear indicator of dissatisfaction regarding the party’s management and internal processes.
Moving forward, Chairman Rabi Lamichhane faces the uphill task of unifying the disgruntled factions as he prepares to nominate an additional 12 office bearers—including a senior leader, a second vice-chairman, a general secretary, a spokesperson, three joint spokespersons, a treasurer, and two joint treasurers—to fully round out the party’s central apparatus.
