KATHMANDU: Senior-most Member of Parliament Arjun Narsingh KC has assumed office after taking the oath of office and secrecy, stressing that Parliament and the government must address the people’s unlimited aspirations expressed in the election.

President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath on Wednesday at Shital Niwas, after which KC began his duties at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar. He pledged to act impartially, uphold the Constitution and parliamentary rules, and safeguard the privileges of all MPs.

KC, elected in the March 5 House of Representatives election, will chair sessions until a new speaker is elected. The Secretariat has scheduled him to administer oaths to the remaining 274 newly elected MPs on Thursday.
