KATHMANDU: The opposition party CPN (UML) has criticized the parliamentary hearing process for proposed Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma, alleging that it is being conducted in a rushed and non-transparent manner.

UML deputy parliamentary party leader in the House of Representatives Padma Aryal said in the Parliamentary Hearing Committee meeting on Tuesday at Singha Durbar that members were not given sufficient time to study the 16 complaints filed against the nominee.

She said she had expected only the distribution of complaints in the first meeting, followed by detailed study and discussion in later sessions, but the committee proceeded with all stages—including opening complaints, discussion, and hearing—on the same day.

She warned that such a fast-track approach could undermine the committee’s credibility.

Similarly, UML National Assembly parliamentary leader Prem Prasad Dangal said the hearing should not be rushed for such a sensitive constitutional appointment.

He stressed that the complaints are serious and detailed, requiring adequate time for review, and argued that members should be given at least one day for proper study.
