KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Additional Inspector General (AIG) Narayan Dutta Poudel as the new Inspector General of the Armed Police Force (APF).

A Cabinet meeting on Monday decided to promote Poudel to the post, replacing outgoing IGP Raju Aryal, who will retire on May 1 after completing his four-year term.

Poudel, who joined Nepal Police as an inspector in 1997 and later adjusted into the APF after its formation in 2001, has been appointed on the basis of seniority. He became AIG in May 2022.

His tenure is expected to last around 23 months under current service rules, which could be extended if regulations are amended.
