Ishan and Rohit hit half-centuries as Nepal secure comfortable win over Scotland

KATHMANDU: Nepal, which was under pressure to win in the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2, has taken revenge against Scotland.

In the match held on Monday, Nepal took revenge by defeating Scotland by 6 wickets.

Previously, in the rain-affected first match, Nepal was defeated by Scotland by 2 runs via the DLS method.

Nepal was under immense pressure to win in order to keep its chances of qualifying for the World Cup Global Qualifiers alive and to save its ODI status.

With this win, Nepal has climbed to the fifth position, reaching 22 points from 27 matches. Meanwhile, top-placed Scotland has 38 points from 30 matches.

Chasing the target of 195 runs set by Scotland, Nepal scored 199 runs in 38.1 overs while losing 4 wickets.

Nepal’s captain, Rohit Kumar Paudel, scored the highest with 74 runs. Remaining unbeaten, he hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in 98 balls.

Coming in at number three, Ishan shared a 104-run partnership with him for the third wicket.

Playing 61 balls, Ishan scored 55 runs with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Opener Aasif Sheikh was out for 29, Kushal Bhurtel for 28, and vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee for 2 runs, while Aarif Sheikh remained unbeaten on 8 runs.

Scotland’s Mark Watt took the highest, 2 wickets. Similarly, Brandon McMullen claimed 1 wicket.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Scotland scored 194 runs, losing all their wickets in 39.1 overs.

Scotland’s McMullen scored the highest with 73 runs. He hit 6 fours and 6 sixes in 44 balls.

Michael English scored 51 runs off 72 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six.

George Munsey was out for 21 and Mark Watt for 20 runs. The bats of other players, however, could not perform.

Nepal’s Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi took the highest, 4 wickets. Bowling 8 overs, he conceded 32 runs.

While Sandeep Lamichhane took 3 wickets, Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Nandan Yadav claimed 1 wicket each.
