KATHMANDU: Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar held a meeting with Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh, in Dhaka on Monday.
During the meeting, Yunus emphasized the need for cooperation in the hydropower sector. He stated that there should be inter-country collaboration among Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and India’s seven northeastern states in areas such as hydropower, healthcare services, and road infrastructure.
“A unified economic plan among Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and the seven northeastern states of India is essential. Working together would bring far greater benefits than operating separately,” Yunus remarked.
He also highlighted the potential for robust cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh in the hydropower sector.
In October last year, a tripartite agreement was reached among Bangladesh, Nepal, and India to bring 40 MW of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian grid.
During the event, Deputy Speaker Magar expressed Nepal’s interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
“All Nepali parliamentarians wish to work closely with Bangladesh. We are committed to expanding economic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries,” she stated.
Highlighting the presence of more than 2,700 Nepali students currently studying in medical colleges in Bangladesh, she praised the quality of education there.
