KATHMANDU: Efforts to resolve the ongoing House deadlock over the visit visa scandal remain stalled, with talks between key political parties ending without agreement on Monday.

The parliamentary impasse, which began on Jestha 13 (May 27), stems from opposition demands for an investigation into Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s alleged role in visa-related irregularities. They have called for his resignation and the formation of a high-level probe committee.

While the ruling Nepali Congress proposed a broader investigation into immigration issues, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) rejected the plan, insisting the probe must explicitly include the home minister. This disagreement has blocked consensus.

Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka is leading efforts to mediate, with ongoing talks between the Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre). The RSP, however, is not part of the current round of discussions.

A scheduled House meeting at 2 PM today was delayed after the Congress informed the Speaker it was still in talks with coalition partner Maoist Centre. On Sunday, a similar meeting was obstructed by the opposition immediately after it began.
